How to remove superglue from your fingers: useful tips

Probably every person who carried out repair work, repaired any technical means, or simply glued some model, faced the problem of removing superglue from the fingers. A particular nuisance is the fact that if it gets on sensitive areas of the skin, where the power of the cover is slightly less, the mass will take even faster, and as a result, removing it will be quite problematic.

How to remove superglue from fingers

This type of glue differs from the usual one in its fast hardening time and the formation of strong bonds between the smallest components of the two gluing surfaces. This property is explained by the overwhelming prevalence of cyanoacrylate in the composition, its content in various types of glue is estimated at 97-99%.

Reference: although cyanoacrylates, as a class of substances in general, are toxic, working with them for a long period will not be harmful if the room is well ventilated. It is important to note that about 2.5% of the world's population are allergic to these substances, and 5% experience irritation of the mucous membrane of the nose and throat even when taking the slightest breaths of the vapors dissolved in the air, so you need to pay attention to your own state when working with glue containing similar components in its composition.

Methods for cleaning hands of superglue

There are quite a lot of ways to remove superglue from the surface of the fingers: some involve the use of own-made solutions and suspensions, and the second - the use of pharmacy and chemicals. The choice of this or that method depends, firstly, on the location of certain components, the degree and area of damage of superglue.

If superglue literally just fell into your hands, then using a regular soap solution and some kind of abrasive material (for example, pumice) can help to remove it. The solution should, firstly, treat the damaged surface, and secondly, moisten the mineral or brush with it in the composition, and then gently rub fingers from all sides. Such two-sided wetting will improve the interaction between the particles, and the superglue will easily move away.

Tip: instead of pumice, a sponge of a rough structure may come up; finally, if it is also not available, eggshells crushed into fine powder can be added to the soap solution.

In cases where a significant area of the fingers is contaminated, you can use agents that are stronger from a chemical point of view: soda, salt, alcohol or vodka. In the first case, a suspension soft for the skin should be diluted, for which it is necessary to mix 25-40 grams of soda powder and 100 milliliters of water: a sufficient number of rigid components can ensure the gradual exfoliation of the hardened mass.

Important: dermatologists are not recommended to sprinkle the affected area with soda powder, since the absence of water, which in other cases plays the role of a kind of softener, can have a detrimental effect on the condition of the skin.

The use of salt is somewhat different both in quantity and its state in water: for example, you need to stir two full tablespoons of it in a glass of 250 ml with warm water, then leave the solution for 10 minutes in order to finally mix the smallest particles. This is done in order to exclude the possibility of direct contact of sodium chloride and microcracks, which will certainly form when removing superglue.

With this solution, it is recommended to moisten a soft napkin, folded three or four times, which is already actively rubbed with thickened glue on the skin in circular movements.Alcohol and vodka should be treated in the same way (15-20 ml of any liquid is enough to remove, so you can only moisten a few cotton pads a couple of times). An identical method of use is margarine and vegetable oil. At the end of any procedure described above, it is imperative to wash your hands with water and wipe them dry with a towel.

Finally, remove the taken superglue with vinegar. To do this, you must:

How to remove superglue from your fingers with vinegar

  1. Pour a little hot water into a small pan or deep plate, in which it is possible to hold your hand for a short time.
  2. Add about 10 ml of vinegar and 35 ml of soap solution to it.
  3. Soiled hands after reaching the liquid homogeneity are lowered into the pan and held there for at least 5-10 minutes.
  4. After that, it is necessary to walk along the surface of the contamination with a softening agent, for example, baby cream, so that after carefully peeling the exfoliated mass.

Shower gel will be an ideal substitute for soap solution (it will only be better if particles of sea salt or any other hard elements are present in its composition).

Currently, there are special preparations that can remove superglue even if none of the methods described above have an effect. So, “Antikley”, for which the task of complete separation of the adhesive mass is the main goal, and “Dimexide”, the spectrum of action of which is somewhat wider (it is a classic anti-inflammatory drug), can help remove a firmly thickened mass.

The importance of quickly getting rid of cured superglue

In any situation, you should always get rid of thickening superglue as soon as possible, since this, firstly, frees up the need to subsequently drip onto the skin with strong chemical reagents, and secondly, it accelerates the process of mass separation until it finally thickens.

It is necessary to exclude prolonged contact of the fingers, as well as other parts of the body, with superglue due to the presence of the above toxic substances in its composition. These components are prone to very rapid destruction of the internal structure of the skin in order to occupy as much space as possible for the mass to seize as a whole.

In addition, the process of removing superglue leads to the indispensable appearance of various cracks, pits and other irregularities in the relief of the fingers. Although it’s quite easy to heal them with an ordinary cream, a tiny amount of acetone, phenol and other harmful substances that can be harmful to the general condition of the skin can still remain in them.
